COUNTY PROFILE
(Clay County)

Clay County, Missouri is one of the largest and fastest growing counties that make up the Kansas City metropolitan area. Located just north of the Missouri River from downtown Kansas City, it has approximately 190,000 residents. With 50 percent of its land area still undeveloped, Clay County has prime land available for business and residential relocation. Clay County boasts an impressive quality of life with a 7,000-acre recreation lake, many cultural and historic points of interest, and Triple-A rated school systems, all within 30 minutes of downtown Kansas City. Housing choices include everything from close-in suburban living to a five-acre parcel for a “country home” and a pony for the kids.

Clay County has impressive infrastructure, including a network of non-congested 4-lane roads, parkways and Interstates; multiple rail service providers; and, in the Clay County Regional Airport, the metro area’s newest general aviation facility. You see in Clay County an influx of new business, ranging from industrial and distribution to large retailers serving the rapidly expanding residential market, such as Target, Kohls and Home Depot serving the rapidly expanding residential market. Recently approved by the City of Kansas City Council is a 1,700-acre master-planned community in the beautiful rolling hills of the Shoal Creek Valley. This new community has room for at least 28,000 residents and includes office, retail and a pedestrian friendly downtown area hearkening back to the golden era of community design. Hunt Midwest, Clay County's leading residential developer, offers award winning home choices from starters to executive level, adjacent to the Shoal Creek’s newest golf course.

Clay County is growing by approximately 5,000 new residents each year, with the trend moving upward. Preserving and maintaining the area’s natural beauty is community priority. Additional park land and extending hiking, biking and equestrian trails area strongly supported. A successful grassroots initiative spearheaded by business and civic leaders has led to a Clay and Platte County Northland plan for 472 miles of new trails to be constructed over the next several years.

When asked why we call Clay County home?, you can easily see the pride reflected in the answer as we say its because of all the things listed above, but its mostly because of the quality of the people that live here. Come see for yourself what Clay County offers.
